The First Mixer for the Babies!

February 28, 2010

Last night we had a mixer with SAE. It was an America themed and at F&M's. It was a lot of fun and the costumes were so funny. Some girls dressed up as hippies, Miley Cyrus, Miss America, housewives or just red, white and blue. This was one of the babies first events and I know they were having fun! They had such creative costumes and were able to meet more and more of the older girls. Everyone looked great and the boys had an awesome time!

Volunteering to Help Haiti

February 28, 2010

Some early risers were able to get up and help out at a water station in a race held to raise funds to go towards rebuilding in Haiti after the devastating effects of the earthquake. Senior Kirsten Lyerly was among the volunteers able to come and help out at the water station. As a senior, she is among the first to come back to Tulane as a freshman after Hurricane Katrina and knows how natural disasters can be so devastating to not only the city but its residents as well. She wanted to help the Haitians recover, inspired by the reconstruction and rebirth of New Orleans.

All Tied Up!

February 19, 2010

What a night for Pi Beta Phi! To kick off the new semester we had a tie date party where sisters had to secretly set up a man for their girls. Searching for the fella's tie we soon were on our way to the Uptown Frat House where everyone had put on their dancing shoes. Dates and sisters alike could be seen chatting it up, dancing the night away, or just relaxing on the couches. When the night was through and our feet (and heels) had had enough we hopped on the buses back to Tulane. Staying classy and fabulous, Piphis always know how to have a good time!

Pi Phi's My Tie Date Party

February 19, 2010

Pi Phis have a fun play on the regular date party. At the My Tie date party, Pi Phis set up their sisters with a date, not telling them who the date is, but giving her his tie to wear to the party so that the date can find her and the party. Many had fun playing matchmaker for their sisters and were eager to find out who their own dates were for the party.

Political Science Guest Lecturer Alex Frenier

February 18, 2010

Today, Alex Frenier from the University of Leipzing gave a compelling lecture to present his findings on transnational corporations and security governance in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. He was able to engage in discussion with Pi Phis interested in political science and encouraged us to visit the International Studies Conference being held in New Orleans at this time. It was interesting to see what kind of research opportunities a political science major can participate in after graduating.

Pi Phis Mardi Pardi!

February 16, 2010

Mardi Gras is one of those times where not only do students from Tulane get together for pretty much a week straight, but its the one time of year that both the city of New Orleans and the student body can come together for the greatest celebration I have ever experienced. It could be the beads in the air, the pigs roasting, or the masks on the people on the floats that makes this time so unique. The colors represent the true exciting spirit of this time of year that could never be replaced. Once Tuesday hits, the countdown begins for next years Mardi Gras, and that is truly special.

MARDI GRAS

Tulane ASB Election

February 8, 2010

Tulane holds their Associated Student Body (ASB) elections, which is the Tulane student government organization that represents both the graduate and undergraduate students of Tulane University. Presidential Candidate Blandon David visited the Pi Phi chapter meeting to advocate for his vote and present his ideas and plans if elected. He also promised to work with the Tulane Greek organizations more so than ASB has in the past. Blandon David was elected as ASB president with a large majority and I am looking forward to what he can accomplish working alongside Tulane Greeklife.

February 7, 2010

Today the New Orleans Saints played the Indianapolis Colts and won the Superbowl with a final score of 31-17. After coming back from the largest point deficit in Superbowl history, Drew Brees led the Saints to victory! Pi Phis watched the game all over the city and gathered together to celebrate their amazing victory! This was not only a celebration for the team, but also for the city of New Orleans, which is celebrating the election of Mitch Landrieu and the upcoming Mardi Gras holiday within the next week! This is the first Superbowl victory for the franchise and brings the rest of the country into the rebuilding and rebirth of the city of New Orleans.

New Orleans Mayoral Election Day

February 6, 2010

Many active Pi Phis involved in the well-being and reconstruction of the city are among the people casting their vote in the New Orleans Mayoral election. The city is excited for a new person to hold the office and duties as mayor of New Orleans as Ray Nagin steps down after many years of service. This will be the first new mayor for the city since the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina. The public is eager for the exciting prospects each candidate holds, and the new ideas they will bring in order to better the city of New Orleans. Democrat Mitch Landrieu received a strong majority of the vote and will become the new mayor of New Orleans, and the public looks forward to continued progress in reconstruction and rebirth.

Pi Phis Apply to Study Abroad

February 5, 2010

Many eager Pi Phis applied to study abroad during the summer and next fall semester. Many sophomores sought out advice from their sisters who had just returned from their own study abroad experiences. From Australia to Prague to Spain, Pi Phis have been experiencing different cultures and gaining amazing life experiences from their study abroad opportunities. The sophomore class is excited to embark on their own experiences. I just submitted my study abroad application to study in Beijing for two months this summer, where I will be able to participate in service learning as well as taking Chinese language and culture courses. These study abroad experiences will be life-altering and one of the most thrilling parts of our college experience.

New Executive Board for Tulane Panhellenic

February 4, 2010

Tulane Panhellenic Council celebrates the new executive board and honors the outgoing executive council for their dedicated service to furthering Greeklife. I am very excited about the new initiatives of the 2010-2011 executive council. They want to foster positive dialogues among sororities, Panhellenic council, and other Tulane University organizations in order to develop greater positive programs for all women on campus. This will be essential to the development of active relationships among the groups on campus and allow the organizations to work together on large projects aimed at the betterment of the Tulane University community.
